About Janice

I was born in Toronto, Canada and have worked in the book business for most of my adult life in one capacity or another. I started writing short stories at an early age and was lucky enough to receive a Canada Council grant for literature which encouraged me to keep trying. Many of my stories have received recognition including, "The Plainness of My Fall" which is a Zoetrope, All-Story winner, judged by Joyce Carol Oates.

I have a real passion for children's books and movies though and have received awards for two of my children's stories “Upik and the Parallel Universe,” which I am currently adapting into a screenplay for animation and "Walrus in a Glass Cage." Both of these stories are Inuit tales, inspired by my husband who is from Greenland.

In 2016, I received the Moondance Film Festival award for a screenplay in the musical / animation category, "The Sock Opera." This screenplay was also a quarter-finalist in the 2016 ScreenCraft Family Friendly Category.

I currently live with my husband in rural Ontario where we keep watch over a wetland conservation area.

I have one published book of award-winning adult short stories, one published young adult science fiction novel and my favourite, a middle-school humour book, Diary of a Real Kid. I am here to connect but also to learn.
